Turn one image into a profile grid

A split profile grid shows one large picture across several posts, so a visitor sees a single artwork when they open your profile. This Instagram grid splitter cuts an image into three columns and up to six rows of equal tiles, and exports every tile at the correct resolution for a post in a single ZIP file. A live preview draws the grid lines and shows the posting number of every tile before you download.

How to post the tiles

Instagram puts the newest post first, at the top left of the grid. To build the picture correctly you must therefore upload the tiles backwards: the bottom-right tile first and the top-left tile last. The file names handle this for you, because they are numbered in posting order. Upload post-1, then post-2, and so on until the last file, and the finished picture will assemble itself on your profile. Wait for each upload to finish so the order is not mixed up.

Choosing a size and keeping details safe

Instagram now crops grid previews to a 3:4 shape, which is why this is the default tile. If you publish at square or 4:5 instead, choose that option so the tiles line up with your posts. Start with a high-resolution image at least as wide as the grid, because small sources look soft when enlarged. Keep faces, text and logos away from the lines between tiles, and remember that the same tile can look cropped inside a post and in the profile grid.

Private and instant

All slicing runs locally in your browser with the Canvas API. Your picture is not uploaded, so unreleased designs and personal photos stay on your device.

Frequently asked questions

In what order should I post the tiles?
Instagram shows the newest post at the top left, so post the last tile first. The files are numbered in posting order: post-1 is the bottom-right tile and the highest number is the top-left tile.
Which tile shape should I choose?
Instagram's profile grid now previews posts as 3:4 tiles, so the 3:4 option is the default. Choose square or 4:5 if your posts are published at those shapes.
Can I make fewer than three columns?
Yes. Choose one, two or three columns and one to six rows. Three columns match the profile grid.
Will the image be cropped?
The picture is scaled to fill the whole grid and trimmed evenly at the edges, so the grid overlay in the preview shows exactly what you will get.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is cut with the Canvas API in your browser and never leaves your device.
